**Interviewing Tips Alert**

Continuing to share - I was recently on a “Job Hunting During a Pandemic” panel sharing tips on resumes and interviewing based on my experience of reviewing thousands of resumes and conducting hundreds of interviews over my career. Here are 3 Interviewing Tips:

1. Research the Company

  • Researching the company prior to your interview shows interest and initiative to your potential employer.

  • Where to look? Review the company’s website, read recent company articles on Google News, look at their social media accounts, and if they are a public company, you could read Bloomberg or other 3rd party overviews about the company

  • Don’t skip this step and make sure you ask a question about something you’ve read.

2. Ask Questions

  • One of the biggest mistakes I have seen candidates make in an interview is not ask questions to each interviewee.

  • Asking questions shows that you have a natural curiosity to learn!

  • Make sure you have at least a few thoughtful questions ready to ask before going into the interview.

  • And better yet, as you are having a conversation, something else they say or ask may spark another question in your mind. Bonus points if you have more of a conversation with the interviewer!

3. STAR answers (Situation or Task, Action, Result)

  • As you respond to questions from the interviewer, make sure to answer them with complete answers so it gives them everything they need to know - the context of the story, what specific steps were completed or not completed and how it was done, and the result of your actions.
