What does “Own Your Own Career” mean to you?

Let’s think about it…

I was recently interviewed for an article in a business magazine about setting career goals and I brought up this quote. I said, “you've got to own your own career. A coach or supervisor should be an advocate for you, but they can't want it more than you.”

You’ve got to drive your everyday actions to align with your career goals and seek feedback as you progress. You can’t sit back and wait for someone to tell you what you should do; show initiative, learn the expectations for the career level you want to be, and set small steps to attain what you want.
